Mayor and Council Powell River British Columbia. Dear Mayor and Council: As you may be aware I.W.A. Canada, Local 2171 is one of the lead proponents of the Knuckleheads Summer and Winter recreational project. I.W.A. Canada, Local 2171 represents approximately four hundred forest workers in the Powell River area. We have long recognized the Knuckleheads as both a unique opportunity for Powell River as well as proof that Industry and recreation can co-exist without the conflict or adversity seen in many other areas of the Province. The Knucklehead's proposal is one of the most widely supported endeavors in the community. This is clearly demonstrated by the many letters of support. What I believe to be of even more importance is the level of co-operation between the varied organizations which has been achieved. I know of few places in this Province where First Nations, Labor, Industry and Environmentalists, by working together, have achieved such a level of success while at the same time accepting and respecting each groups individual needs. I am requesting that Council not look at this as merely a request for funding but as an opportunity to become involved in something which has the potential to become a year round outdoors recreational "flagship" and something all of Powell River can look on with pride. I apologize for not having been able to make a presentation in person before Municipal Council regarding the Knuckleheads Winter recreation proposal. On behalf of I.W.A. Canada and all it's members I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the coming year. Sonny Rioux Business Agent I.W.A. Canada, Local 2171
