Lund

Lund, a Swedish word meaning a tranquil place with shade trees and a stream. It is 17 miles north of Powell River and 36 miles north of Saltery Bay. Initially a frontier settlement, Lund thrives on the edge of civilization, for no further connecting coastal road exists to the north. Back in the 60's and 70's it was a favorite hideout for the hippies and the draft dodgers.

Saltery Bay

Visitors Information

Saltery Bay Recreation

Saltery Bay was named after a Japanese salmon saltery that was built on stilts out in the bay in the early part of last century. The saltery camp was later owned by McNair. Some of Saltery Bay's 90 residents are descendants of trappers who used to row dugout canoes up the coast, catching fish for canneries along the way.  Jenkinson Road is named after the "man who digs for fish", Frank Jenkinson. Digging for fish means clearing the silt out of the streams and making them "fish-friendly" again. His old homestead can be found next to the campsite.

In 1954, BC Ferry terminal and the road system was built to connect travellers to Powell River. Next to the Ferry terminal there is a government marina and anchorage with limited space for small craft, fishing boats and sailboats.
