Powell Forest Canoe Route

Canoe Route

The Powell Forest Canoe Route is located within the southern portion of the Sunshine Coast Forest District. This area contains numerous lakes, rivers and creeks with a variety of physical features ranging from deciduous covered lowlands to rugged mountain peaks surrounding the 'fjord-like' lakes. Currently there are 20 Forest Service recreational sites located along the canoe route and adjoining lakes. The canoe route area has an unique logging history dating back to the early 1920's. Evidence of the old logging practices can still be found along the route. The area also supports several active logging operations. The preferred time to travel the Canoe Route is between April and November. During the winter months the higher lakes are frozen and the roads become inaccessible. The route may be navigated in either direction; however, in order to avoid adverse grades when portaging, the preferred direction is Lois Lake to Powell Lake.
